What is BMR or Basal Metabolic Rate?

With decreased body weight the person’s BMR also decreases. This is what causes plateaus to be reached when dieting. It takes less calories to sustain a smaller person.

When a dieter reaches a plateau in his or her diet, this means total energy consumption equals total energy expenditure. It’s probably a good idea to keep the exercise program the same, but to start losing weight again the dieter must further restrict his or her food intake. You could ratchet up the amount of exercise you do, but exercise takes time and there is only so much time in a day. This is why it is recommended to cut back on eating rather than increase your exercise efforts.
