RUSA Ride #2: 200K
PA Randonneurs put on its January 200k ride today after having postponed it the previous two weekends due to inclement weather. Riding is not part of my daily schedule these days. So I was going to skip the event. But this past Tuesday I looked at the weather forecast for today and noticed ideal weather for a ride in January. So I bit the bullet and signed up. Brought my Felt CX bike with its 35mm tires to the start line. The other riders were surprised to see me this morning after not having seen me on the previous two sign up lists. I told them I just could not pass up the weather.
The ride started well. It was somewhere in the low 30s I think, but dry. And we stayed together for the most part most of the ride. I was actually in 4th place (if you count that kind of thing) on and off to mile 105 of the 125 miler. Though the temps were nice (somewhere in the high 40s in early afternoon), there wasn’t much sun during the day. And there was a pretty good headwind for much of the ride after leaving the first controle. I had fun, and I got a few more miles on the RUSA board early in the season.
