It’s Already September
Gosh. The summer flew by. I didn’t do hardly any bike riding. My fitness club was locked shut because of the Covid-19 problem. And I didn’t make any trips over to the Jersey shore to enjoy a walk on a boardwalk because there were no sit-in restaurants open. I just have to have a nice meal after a boardwalk walk.
But there is hope for the future. My fitness club opens on September 8. I’ll be able to start swimming again as a result. And I’ll be able to start doing calisthenics in the therapy pool there. I’ve gotten quite stiff from lack of quality activity for the past 6 months. I’m definitely looking forward to getting back in the pool.
After a few weeks of doing aquatic workouts I suspect I’ll feel good enough to start doing treadmill and stairclimber workouts to get some endurance back. And if those go well, then I’ll start doing some intervals (running) outdoors on the Washington Rd hill in downtown Princeton. Of course, the Great Road hill from Princeton up to Princeton Day School provides a neat location to do intervals, too.
With regard to getting back into bike riding, I’m not really all that enthusiastic. I’ve lost motivation for long bike rides. And the shorter bike rides won’t be too much fun until Covid-19 restrictions on group riding are lifted. I suspect many of my riding buddies have lost their riding fitness, too. So why plan for group riding in the short term. Ultimately I’ll want to start riding again. But as of right now I don’t know when that will be.
I’ve been in my own little world for the past 6 months. Basically I work during the night and have slept during the day. I might have put short pants on three times all summer since I didn’t go out during the hot part of the day. And yes, I’ve put on a little weight. I suspect 5 to 10 pounds. That’s going to have to come off this Fall. And it will. I have no doubt about that.
